Behind the Lens: My Journey as a Photographer Featured by Voyage Dallas
I’m excited to share that I was recently featured by Voyage Dallas, where I had the opportunity to talk about my journey as a photographer, the experiences that shaped me, and the approach I bring to every session.
While I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my story, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on something that has been at the center of my life for many years: photography and the connection it creates between people.
Photography Has Always Been About Presence
My relationship with photography started when I was young. My mom gave me a small film camera as a child, and I remember the feeling of slowing down and paying attention to the world around me.
Photography has always asked me to be present. It encourages me to notice the small things: the expressions, the quiet moments, the relationships, and the details that often pass by unnoticed.
Years later, I returned to photography as an adult. What began as taking portraits for friends and family slowly grew into something more. Eventually, people I didn’t know began trusting me to capture important moments in their lives, and that was when photography started to feel like more than a passion project.
Creating Space for People to Feel Comfortable
I often describe my work as focusing on people and intimate spaces. I photograph individuals, families, and occasionally elopements in homes, meaningful locations, and outdoor environments.
The setting matters, but the person matters more.
Being photographed can feel vulnerable. Many people walk into a session carrying insecurities, uncertainty, or the belief that they aren’t naturally “photogenic.” I understand that feeling because being seen can feel intimidating.
My goal is never to create a version of someone that doesn’t exist. My goal is to create an environment where people feel comfortable enough to be themselves.
The moments I treasure most are not always the perfectly posed ones. They are the small moments in between—the genuine laughter, the quiet interactions, the expressions people make when they forget the camera is there.
A New Chapter for Beverly Miechel Photography
This feature feels like the perfect time to expand what I share here beyond my portfolio.
Photography is about more than the final image. There is a whole story behind every session: choosing locations, preparing outfits, helping people feel comfortable, and preserving memories that become part of someone's home and history.
Through this blog, I’ll be sharing:
• North Texas photography locations and recommendations
• Tips for preparing for family and portrait sessions
• Outfit inspiration
• Behind-the-scenes stories
• Photography advice and resources
My hope is that this becomes a helpful resource whether you’re planning your own session, looking for inspiration, or simply interested in the stories behind the images.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me, trusted me, shared my work, and allowed me to be part of meaningful moments in your lives. I’m excited for what’s ahead.
